Shortly after The Afterlife of Flowers was published, Janie received a phone call from the owner of North America’s largest textile manufacturer. He proposed a licensing deal for mass producing and weaving Janie’s pressed flower designs to produce a tapestry woven pillow collection. At first, Janie was in disbelief. Without fact-checkers and sophisticated search engines back then, she was skeptical. She was also unsure of mass production since she is a stickler for quality control. So, several weeks passed, and one day, a very large carton was delivered to Janie’s house. The manufacturer had sent samples of his proposed toss pillows featuring the pressed flowers. The pressed flowers were exquisitely translated into yarn and of excellent quality. Very soon thereafter, a license agreement was reached and evolved to over 15 successful years of distribution at numerous “big box” retail stores in North America and Canada. When the collection launched, the Janie Gross Pillow Collection was the top-selling series in its home fashion category.

The gallery below shows the original collection and subsequent exclusive designs for the retailer Bed Bath & Beyond.

Riding on the success of the textile products, Janie designed and launched custom collections, including an exclusive ceramic tabletop collection for Bed Bath & Beyond and stationery products for CR Gibson.

Janie’s next objective was to license her designs for the bed and bath categories, but the industry was wary of the production costs then. Since those days, technology has improved and evolved, so The Afterlife of Flowers may experience a rebirth if somebody out there is interested(?)

Please contact Janie here if you are a manufacturer or licensee who believes in the “power of flowers” to reduce stress, improve mood, and help people feel better.
